Restaurants you can get into without a reservation. 34 open rooms in New York City already have a walk-in, bar-seat, or same-day note in this directory.
Difficulty is Midnight Table's own estimate, not official Resy data. Rooms with no walk-in note on file are left off, including score 2 when that is the only fact we have.
The easier end of Midnight Table's scale, and only where a walk-in, bar, or same-day note is already on file. A score of 1 is Walk-in friendly. A score of 2 is Plan ahead, which means sellout speed was not measured, so it is listed here only with that note. The score is Midnight Table's own estimate, not official Resy data.
West Village · Plan ahead2/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
Reservations open two weeks out at 10am, and a limited number of walk-ins are taken. The better ask is the bar, where half portions of steak are served. On a Monday at 8:30pm the wait was about 10 minutes.
Difficulty 3 or higher on Midnight Table's scale. Each note is a sourced tip already stored on the restaurant, quoted with its source, or the walk-in line on that record. Nothing here is official Resy data, and a tip is not a promise of a table.

The walk-in play is a weekday early arrival: line up 30 to 40 minutes before doors, ideally Monday through Wednesday, and ask for a table at opening. Diners who do it are often seated within the first hour, usually on a brisk, timed seating.
Friday through Sunday lunch is the friendlier walk-in window. One diner reports a 10:20 AM arrival for a noon opening put them roughly tenth in line and still got seated; those who miss the cut are offered a cancellation standby list.

On file: A quarter of the dining room and the 11-seat bar are held for walk-ins
A quarter of the dining room and the entire 11-seat bar are held for walk-ins. The chef's counter tasting menu needs a reservation that specifies it; Resy opens 28 days out at midnight.
West Village · Tough3/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
Bar seats are held for walk-ins, so stop by for a martini and oysters. Resy opens two weeks out at noon, and Notify is how the restaurant announces cancellations; late cancels, inside 12 hours, cost $50 a head, so most drops land the day before.
West Village · Tough3/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
On file: 12 bar seats
Late works too: walk-ins near closing, around 9:30 PM, meet less resistance. Solo diners arriving 20 minutes before open have also been seated without trouble, though a table rather than a bar seat is a long shot.
SoHo · Very tough4/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
On file: Some of the 13 bar seats; not the tables
Reservations open two weeks out, and the hour is not published. Tables are not a walk-in. Some of the 13 bar seats near the door are, and a line has started forming outside around 4pm.
SoHo · Tough3/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
Weekend brunch is a scene, but tables turn in under an hour, so walk-ins often wait longer than they eat. Dinner at the bar is the underrated move, and solo diners report a warm welcome at the raw bar.
SoHo · Tough3/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
It's walk-in only, and the counter turns fast. Weekday noon is quiet, and even Friday at 7:30 PM diners report about a 15-minute wait, with an order-at-the-register option if you'd rather not wait for table service.
Williamsburg · Very tough4/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
On file: Bar and counter seats are held for walk-ins
Reservations open two weeks out at 8am. Bar and counter seats are saved for walk-ins, and a first-seating table has gone to people lined up by 4:30pm for the 5pm open.
Williamsburg · Tough3/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
On file: Yes at open (5pm wkdy/4pm wknd)
Walk in right at opening: 5 PM on weekdays, 4 PM on weekends. For a booking, call a reservationist between 10 AM and 4 PM, and watch for Resy Notify alerts, which tend to fire around 2 PM on the day you want.
Williamsburg · Tough3/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
On file: Yes; waitlist starts 4:45pm
The online book opens 30 days out at 7am and goes quickly. Walk-ins are a real plan: arrive around the 5:30pm opening and there is a decent chance of a table. If there is a wait, Nightmoves, the bar next door, is where you stand.
Seats are set aside for walk-ins. On weekends, arriving 45 minutes to an hour early has put people first in line, and staff start taking names roughly 45 minutes before doors.
Lunch, where offered, is the easier walk-in; line up before open and expect about 30 minutes, since the team paces seating to protect the kitchen. Notify tends to surface late tables around 10:30 PM.
The waitlist opens at 4:45 PM for the 5:30 dinner open, and the bar, one of the best seats in the house, is held for walk-ins. Lunch is the quieter alternative.
Flatiron District · Very tough4/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
On file: 16-seat bar and entrance high-tops
Reservations open two weeks out at 10am. Walk-ins are taken at the 16-seat bar and the high-tops by the entrance. A party of four to six has had an easier time with a last-minute table than a pair, and calling the reservationist is the backup when the time you want is not listed.
Flatiron District · Very tough4/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
On file: Only if a table cancels at the last minute
Book parties of two to six on Resy, or call 212-401-7886 between noon and 10pm. The restaurant says it can take a walk-in only when a table cancels at the last minute. Cancel at least 24 hours ahead; inside that window the fee is $50 a person.
Greenwich Village · Near impossible5/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
Diners' experience, which differs from the published no-walk-in policy: weekday lunch is the window people report getting seated. They describe showing up right at the 11:30 AM opening, asking for a table for one, two, or even four, and offering to keep it quick.
Lower East Side · Tough3/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
On file: 80% walk-in
Most of The Coop is walk-in, and those seats get the full food menu. A smaller slice opens on Resy six days ahead at midnight, for up to six people. Ask the host for the text waitlist and be back within 10 minutes. A held table lasts about 10 minutes. Anything booked or traded off Resy is not honored. Bring a photo ID. Guests under 21 can eat from 5pm to 10pm, and there is a $2.50-per-person booking fee that is not returned if you change or cancel.
Lower East Side · Tough3/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
On file: Yes, arrive by 4:45pm
The room is tiny: a six- or seven-seat bar, a wall counter, three small tables, one six-top, and two tables outside. Neighbors say the walk-in line starts forming by 5 PM or earlier.
Walking in has recently gotten easier: arrive close to the 5:30 PM open. While you're there, ask in person about a future table for two; it has worked.
NoMad · Tough3/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
Walk-ins are only realistic when someone cancels the same day. The ground-floor bar is for dining reservations, not a walk-up drink. Dress is business casual, and sportswear is refused.
Crown Heights · Tough3/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
On file: Officially reservation-only; extra outdoor tables when it is warm
The room has just seven tables, but a tiny two-seat walk-in counter has opened. One couple who arrived at 5:10 for the 5:30 PM open were first in line and took the first seating.
Midtown · Tough3/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
The restaurant says it always encourages walk-ins. If you would rather book, Resy opens the book 21 days ahead at 10am. Large parties go to events@borgonyc.com rather than the regular book.
The book opens 21 days out, and the hour is not published. Besides the dining room, the bar area by the door holds two booths and 12 stools for walk-ins.
Hudson Square · Tough3/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
On file: All eight bar seats and most tables are held for walk-ins
Reservations open two weeks out at 9am. All eight bar seats and most of the tables are held for walk-ins. On a recent Wednesday at 6pm, two people were quoted about an hour.
Upper East Side · Tough3/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
On file: Rare, and only for a no-show; five-seat bar is the realistic walk-in
The five-seat bar is walk-in only, first come, first served, and it serves a short à la carte list as well as the prix-fixe. A walk-in table happens from time to time, not on a schedule. SevenRooms Alert Me will tell you if a booked table frees up. It does not hold one for you.
The five-seat front bar now serves à la carte dishes and is the realistic walk-in seat, but only early, before it fills with parties waiting for tables.
The online book opens two weeks out at 9am. The restaurant says a walk-in table is only for the rare no-show or last-minute cancellation. Parties larger than two, and lunch, have been the easier books.
Midtown East · Very tough4/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
On file: Bar walk-ins, full menu
The restaurant posts a 21-day window, and each new date opens at 9:00 AM ET. Online bookings cover parties up to eight. The bar takes walk-ins and serves the full menu.
East Village · Very tough4/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
On file: Technically yes; do not count on it
All 14 seats are at the counter, and they open 30 days out at midnight. Walk-ins are technically accepted. A party of two that showed up at 6pm on a Friday was told there was nothing; a solo diner may have a better shot.
Ridgewood · Tough3/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
Walk-ins work: regulars put the wait at 30 to 40 minutes at most, often with a bar seat right away, and arriving around 5 to 5:15 PM, even on a Sunday, gets in fast. Come early if you want the burger; it sells out.
Fort Greene · Tough3/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
About half the seats are held for walk-ins, and most people who eat here never booked. Show up. If the room is full, the host takes a name and a number in person only. You cannot join that list by phone. On weekends and later in the week a line often forms just before the 5pm opening, and the first walk-in wave is usually seated by 5:30. The second seating tends to fall between 6:45 and 7:30, the third between 9 and 10. Answer within 10 to 15 minutes or the seat moves on.
Lincoln Center / UWS · Very tough4/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
On file: 6-seat bar (parties of 2) + patio
The walk-in seats are the bar and, in decent weather, the patio. One guide describes a six-seat bar for parties of two, a no-show list, a 4:30 arrival for an early seating, and waiting with a drink in the David Geffen Hall lobby. Another says the restaurant has pointed people to a call or an email and to show up at 5pm. Diners who lined up in May 2025 mostly found 4:00 safer than 4:30, especially Thursday through Saturday, and a solo can get passed for a larger patio party. The door and the bar keep separate lists.
Bar walk-ins are for parties of two at most. For help with a booking, the team suggests calling or emailing the restaurant directly. Dressing up isn't required, but the room does.
Nolita · Near impossible5/5 · Midnight Table estimate, not official Resy data
On file: 12-seat bar for walk-in parties of 1-2; arrive ~4:15pm
The dining room is Resy only, 30 days ahead, for parties up to six. The bar counter is the walk-in, first come, first served, and the house still says to book the room if you can. Athletic wear can be turned away. Children under three are not seated, and there are no strollers or high chairs. Corkage is $110 a bottle.
That bar is about a dozen seats, held for walk-in parties of one or two, and it runs the full menu. For a 5pm seating, be there around 4:15. A weeknight arrival closer to 6pm was quoted a wait of about four hours. Lunch is the softer book.
Twelve bar seats are held every night for walk-ins, first come, first served, and most of the menu is served there. For weekday dinner or Friday and Saturday lunch, diners line up about 45 minutes ahead; on Fridays, an hour early has put people first in line.
